Provinces & Jurisdictions

One Communion, four continents.

The Anglican Free Communion is gathered into autonomous jurisdictions on four continents — each governed by its own bishops in synod, yet held together in the historic faith and order of the universal Church.

Region I

Britain & Europe

United Kingdom

The historic heartland of the Communion. From the union of three small churches in England in 1897, primatial leadership has been carried abroad and back again — most recently returning to the British Isles in 2015.

Region II

The Americas

United States

The Communion's leadership crossed the Atlantic in 1978 and remained centred in the Americas for nearly four decades, gathering jurisdictions from North to South America under the apostolic ministry of her bishops.

Region III

Africa

Sub-Saharan Africa

Jurisdictions and missions of the Communion in West, East, and Southern Africa — partners in proclaiming the historic faith and order to a continent of vital Christian witness.

Region IV

Asia & Oceania

Indo-Pacific

Communities of the Communion serving across the Indo-Pacific, where the apostolic ministry continues to take root in new soil.

A note on jurisdiction

“Each jurisdiction of the Communion is autonomous in her own governance, yet bound to her sister churches by the one faith, the one ministry, and the one Lord whom we together serve.”

The Communion endeavours to live as a fellowship, not a federation.
